Police: Public Not in Danger after Fire in Myjava, No Injuries Reported

Myjava, 5 June (TASR) - The public faces no danger following a fire that broke out in a tank containing a hazardous substance at an industrial site in Myjava (Trencin region) on Friday morning, the Regional Police in Trencin reported on the basis of air quality measurements after firefighters managed to put out the fire, adding that the situation at the industrial site is still being monitored.
Earlier on Friday, Myjava authorities urged local residents to keep their windows closed. No injuries were reported.
Marian Petrik, a spokesperson at the Regional Directorate of the Fire and Rescue Corps in Trencin, told TASR that "the piping in the affected building was damaged, leading to a chemical spill, which firefighters are currently pumping into collection containers".
He added that a drone is also being used to "continuously monitor the air quality near the industrial site, with no elevated values measured so far".
A total of 20 firefighters from Myjava, Nove Mesto nad Vahom (Trencin region), Trencin and Senica (Trnava region) were dispatched to the scene, using nine pieces of equipment to extinguish the fire. They were assisted by volunteer firefighters from Brezova pod Bradlom (Trencin region).
Petrik added that Control Chemical Laboratory staff and experts from the Fire Engineering and Expertise Institute were also called out to attend the incident.
