Bratislava, 4 June (TASR) - Officers from the Financial Police Unit of the Office for Combating Organised Crime (UBOK) of the Police Corps Presidium are carrying out raids at multiple locations across Slovakia as part of international police cooperation aimed at uncovering serious tax-related criminal activities, TASR learnt from the Police Corps Presidium press department on Thursday.
"The actions being carried out are part of an investigation into an organised criminal group that is believed to have been operating in several European countries. According to the preliminary findings so far, its activities may have caused damage to tax and customs revenues exceeding €19 million," said the police.
As part of the operation, officers are conducting searches of houses and other premises, as well as additional measures aimed at securing evidence required for criminal proceedings.
The criminal proceedings are being supervised by the European Public Prosecutor's Office. Several security and judicial authorities from European Union-member states are cooperating in the investigation.
"Given the ongoing procedural actions and in order not to jeopardise the course of the investigation, it isn't currently possible to provide further details," added the police.
