Kalinak Expects Funds from SAFE Instrument to Be Used within Few Years

Bratislava, 3 June (TASR) - I expect the funds from the SAFE defence loan facility for Slovakia to be absorbed within two or three years, Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) told TASR on Wednesday, adding that this depends on the delivery of the ordered equipment. The minister noted that Slovakia has already signed several contracts. "There is ammunition, there are small arms, there are universal finishing machines, and Eva howitzers," he said, adding that Slovakia plans to use a total of approximately €2.3 billion. Slovakia has joined the European SAFE instrument, which provides European Union countries with loans for weapons and other military needs. The Defence Ministry plans to finance or co-finance a total of nine investment projects using the loan. am/df
