SaS Blasts SNS Bill on Cosmetic Salon Invasive Procedures

Bratislava, 26 May (TASR) - The opposition's Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) criticises efforts by the coalition's Slovak National Party (SNS) to remove from legislation a ban on invasive medical procedures in cosmetic salons, claiming the move would open the way for cosmetic salons to inject botox without any rules. In SaS's view, this constitutes gambling with public health and it sets a dangerous precedent. "The draft law clearly states that body care establishments, meaning cosmetic salons, cannot perform invasive procedures that are medical procedures. And botox or hyaluronic acid injections are unquestionably medical procedures," said MP Tomas Szalay (SaS). In his view, the amendment to the public health law should clearly separate cosmetic services from healthcare. The legislator argued that such procedures require medical education and professional training, including knowledge of anatomy, indications and contraindications, risks and the ability to manage complications. Cosmetic salons, he said, are not intended for this purpose. Because of this, Szalay criticised efforts by SNS and its MP Adam Lucansky to remove the explicit ban on these procedures from the law, describing it as a dangerous precedent that could lead to serious health complications. mf
