Presov/Bratislava, 26 May (TASR) - Excavation work is currently underway at the construction site of the new hospital in Bratislava's borough of Vajnory, and preparations are being made for the main foundation pit, Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) stated on Tuesday, adding that he expects work on the first concrete slab to begin in the autumn. "It will be an exceptionally challenging concrete pour, including in terms of water management," he stated. The construction of the new General Milan Rastislav Stefanik National University Hospital in Bratislava's borough of Vajnory began in December 2025. The hospital is expected to be fully operational by 2030. The hospital will be located on a 35-hectare site, which will also include a future teaching hospital, a university campus and other educational institutions. Under normal conditions, with most rooms being single-occupancy, the hospital is expected to have a capacity of 1,270 beds. In the event of a crisis, this could be increased to 1,467. am/df
