CRIF: 574 Personal Bankruptcies in April, One Third Fewer Than Last Year

Bratislava, 23 May (TASR) - A total of 574 Slovaks went bankrupt in April 2026, down by 3.5 percent from March and by 34.7 percent from the same period of last year, according to the latest analysis published by CRIF – the Slovak Credit Bureau, which manages the credit registries of banking and non-banking houses. As many as 563 debtors opted for bankruptcy, while the rest (11) opted for instalment calendars. Of the total number of personal bankruptcies declared in April, 545 (90.2 percent) were declared for the assets of private individuals and the rest for the assets of entrepreneurs. In April, 372 men (65 percent) went bankrupt, while the number of women reached 202. April saw the highest number of individuals with university education filing for bankruptcy so far this year - four women and 15 men. The highest number of bankruptcies was reported in the 30–39 age category - 190 individuals of both genders (33 percent), followed by people in their forties, with 144 bankruptcies (25 percent). One woman in her eighties declared bankruptcy, the third one to do so this year. "Homeless people accounted for 16.9 percent of the total number of those falling into bankruptcy in April, with their number reaching 95. Nine married couples and six people with family ties went bankrupt in April as well," said CRIF chief analyst Jana Markova. The highest number of personal bankruptcies was reported in Bratislava region, where 99 people went bankrupt. It was followed by Presov region (94) and Nitra (89), Trnava and Banska Bystrica (75 each each), Kosice (56) and Zilina (44).
