Bratislava, 22 May (TASR) - Tax enforcement officers brought more than €107 million into the state budget in the first four months of this year, up €7.8 million year-on-year (y-o-y), Financial Administration (FS) spokesman Daniel Kovac announced on Friday, adding that the debt recovery success rate reached all-time high at over 45 percent.
The highest amount recovered this year from a single debtor was €937,000. By the end of April, the number of initiated tax distraint proceedings grew by 6.7 percent to 13,797, stated Kovac.
"FS has been strengthening the efficiency of tax arrears recovery for a long time. As of 30 April 2026, tax enforcement officers had brought more than €107 million into the state budget, which is an increase of 7.9 percent compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the effectiveness of the recovery process itself is also improving. The current recovery rate has exceeded 45 percent, which is an increase of 8 percentage points y-o-y. This is the highest success rate achieved by tax enforcement officers in the periods assessed to date," said Tomas Plzik, the General Director of the FS Recovery and Execution Section.
According to FS, these results have been achieved thanks to a combination of several measures, including modern analytical tools, the digitalisation of processes, the diversification of recovery methods, and more intensive use of international debt recovery. "An important role is also played by tax enforcement officers working directly in the field, where they ensure the payment of arrears directly at the premises of tax debtors," explained Kovac.
Kovac stressed that tax debtors still have an opportunity to use the so-called tax amnesty. It applies to tax arrears recorded as of 30 September 2025, provided they are voluntarily settled no later than 30 June 2026. "FS points out that the decisive factor is the voluntary nature of the payment. If the arrears are recovered through enforcement action by a tax enforcement officer, the tax amnesty does not apply in such cases," added Kovac.
