Bratislava, 19 May (TASR) - Pavol Nad, the first head of the the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS) in its history, concluded his tenure in office on Monday (18 May), but his successor hasn't been elected yet, NSS spokesperson Marie Stracenska told TASR on Tuesday, adding that the court will be managed on a temporary basis by its vice-chair Marian Trencan. The Judicial Council failed to elect a new chair at its session in April. "None of the candidates for this post received the required absolute majority of votes from all members of the Judicial Council," specified Stracenska. Two new candidates from among the NSS judges are running for the post in a repeat election, which is to be held on 11 August of this year. Trencan assumed office as vice-president on 12 October 2021, which means that he can act as interim NSS head until 12 October 2026. "If a new chair isn't selected by then, the urgent duties of the court head will be performed by the oldest judge in terms of age, as prescribed by law," added Stracenska. Nad was elected to his post by the Judicial Council in April 2021 and was subsequently appointed as NSS head by the then-President Zuzana Caputova, with his term of office beginning on 18 May 2021. jrg/df
