Stat: Revenues of Accommodation Facilities Rose to €170 million in First Quarter

Bratislava, 19 May (TASR) - Accommodation providers in Slovakia posted revenues totalling almost €171 million (ex-VAT) for the first quarter of 2026, up by almost 17.5 million (nearly 11 percent) year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday, adding that in nominal terms, this was the highest first-quarter value since the introduction of the current methodology in 2020. Almost 47 percent of the revenues (€97 million) came from domestic clientele, while foreign visitors brought in 43 percent (€74 million). The highest revenues, amounting to over €55.3 million, were generated in Zilina region, while Presov region came in second with €37.6 million, followed by Bratislava region with €28.3 million. These three regions produced 70 percent of total accommodation revenues in Slovakia. Conversely, accommodation revenues in Nitra, Trencin and Kosice regions did not exceed €10 million for the first three months of 2026. Revenues grew year-on-year in seven of the Slovakia's eight regions, with the highest increase reported by Bratislava and Kosice regions, up 20 percent, as well as Presov and Trencin regions, up by nearly 14 percent. Nitra was the only region to post a y-o-y decline. In six regions, domestic clientele prevailed, while foreign visitors generated more than half of accommodation revenues only in Bratislava region. The most dominant Zilina region in terms of revenue showed an equal split between domestic and foreign visitors. According to statistics, the share of foreign clientele in the revenue structure has been steadily increasing since 2021. For the first three months of this year, accommodation services in Slovakia were provided by 5,974 facilities, up by 852 y-o-y. A total of nearly 78,000 rooms and 212,000 beds (including camping spots) were available, posting y-o-y increases of 6 percent and 5 percent, respectively. The net occupation rate of permanent beds was 24.3 percent, while the figure was 26.8 percent in the case of rooms. Nearly 70,000 rooms per day with 164,000 permanent beds were available on average during the first quarter of 2026, up by more 6 percent y-o-y in both cases. jrg
