Bratislava, 13 May (TASR) - The Judicial Council has registered two candidates for the post of chair of the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS), whose nominations were submitted by eligible proposers within the set deadline: Monika Valasikova and Marian Trencan, the Judicial Council's press department has informed TASR.
The election should take place on 11 August.
Valasikova was nominated by four NSS judges and the Slovak Judges Association. Trencan was proposed by 11 NSS judges and the Judicial Council of the Administrative Court in Bratislava. The candidates' financial situations should be examined before the August election date, and oversight should also be carried out to verify whether both candidates meet the judicial competence requirements. "The successful candidate must subsequently gain an absolute majority of votes from all members of the Judicial Council," specified the press department.
Judicial Council chair Marcela Kosova announced a new election for the post of NSS chair on 15 April. This announcement followed the failure to elect a new NSS chair at a Judicial Council meeting on 14 April. Eligible nominators had until 8 May to submit their proposals.
The term in office of current NSS chair Pavol Nad will expire on 18 May.
