Stats: Employment Down in Six Out of Ten Sectors Y-o-Y in March 2026

Bratislava, 11 May (TASR) - Employment fell in six of the ten monitored sectors in March 2026, with wholesale posting the most rapid year-on-year (y-o-y) decrease of 3.3 percent, while drops were also seen in key sectors in terms of labour, such as industry (down by 0.7 percent) and retail (down 1.9 percent), the Statistics Office reported on Monday. Conversely, growth was posted in four sectors, most notably in accommodation, with the number of employees rising by 5.5 percent. Less-rapid growth of up to 3.5 percent was recorded in the construction sector, in selected market services, and in pubs and restaurants. In the first three months of 2026, meanwhile, employment increased y-o-y in six sectors, with the most-rapid growth of 6.5 percent being reported by the accommodation sector. Drops of up to 4 percent were posted in industry, in transport and warehousing, in retail and, most notably, in wholesale. jrg/df
