Liptovsky Mikulas, 10 May (TASR) - A total of 262 graduates of basic military training took their ceremonial military oath at the nationwide celebrations of the 81st anniversary of the end of WWII, which took place in the premises of the General M.R. Stefanik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovsky Mikulas (Zilina region) on Sunday. Their basic training began in early April and will continue until the end of May, Slovak Army spokesman Stefan Zemanovic has told TASR. President Peter Pellegrini, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Slovak Armed Forces, in his speech stressed that Slovakia is and must forever remain a sovereign, independent, democratic country that gives its citizens a well-deserved feeling of security and freedom even in today's world. He wished the soldiers a great deal of energy, courage and patience in fulfilling their mission and that they can rely on each other. Part of the all-day celebrations of the 81st anniversary of the end of WWII in the academy premises was a programme for families with children, experiential attractions, presentation and educational stands, as well as a food zone with refreshments, demonstrations by military history clubs, and recruitment stands of the Slovak Armed Forces offering information about military careers. Visitors were also able to try out various activities at stands run by ministries and other organisations. ko
