Presov, 7 May (TASR) - At a press conference in Presov on Thursday, incumbent city mayor Frantisek Olha announced that he will run for re-election in this year's autumn election.
His candidacy is supported by the extra-parliamentary Democrats party, of which he is vice-chairman, and the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS). Olha was supported at the press conference by Democrats chairman Jaroslav Nad and PS leader Michal Simecka.
"I want to address the broadest possible range of issues -from so-called 'concrete projects' and green spaces to culture, sports, education, and soft activities. Following the successful construction of the Presov skatepark - a long-standing evergreen of pre-election promises - and after we managed to build a modern soccer stadium and begin construction of the national equestrian centre, I aim to show people that other long-buried projects in Presov can be revived in a similar way. "One of them is, for example, a public swimming pool," stated olha, adding that the plan is to build a multi-sport complex in phases, which, in addition to the swimming pool, will also include an ice-hockey training hall and a hall for ball and combat sports.
One of the pillars of Olha's second mayoral campaign will also be the renovation of the Scala cinema. He also intends to focus on a major overhaul and modernisation of the traffic signal system in Presov.
Landscape architect and city councillor Rastislav Mochnacky (Christian Democrats/KDH) has already announced he will run for the post of Presov mayor.
