Liskova, 28 April (TASR) - The government is scheduled to hold an away-from-home session in the village of Liskova in Ruzomberok district (Zilina region) on Wednesday (29 April), the Government Office's press and information department told TASR on Tuesday, adding that the meeting will result in specific measures and projects aimed at the development of the districts of Martin, Liptovsky Mikulas, Ruzomberok and Turcianske Teplice. During the session, the government will focus on transport, health care, and tourism development. "The region of northern Slovakia is among the strategic areas combining industry, tourism and services, with each of its parts having its own specific needs and development opportunities," stated the Government Office. In Martin district, steps are being prepared to strengthen its position as a major health-care and industrial centre. "One key project is the modernisation of the University Hospital in Martin, which has supra-regional significance," it explained. According to the Government Office, Liptovsky Mikulas district and the Liptov area are positioning themselves as a 'gateway to the Tatra mountains' and one of the main tourism centres. In addition to the development of infrastructure and modern services, emphasis is also being placed on sustainable tourism, nature conservation and support for traditional industries, such as sheep farming. The region is also known for sports, in particular white-water slalom and white-water rafting, which are of international significance. "In Ruzomberok, the focus is on industrial transformation and greening, particularly in relation to the paper industry. One important part of the region is the faculty SNP Central Military Hospital in Ruzomberok as well as the Catholic University in Ruzomberok, which strengthens the area's educational potential," added the office. Measures in Turcianske Teplice are aimed at modernising infrastructure, supporting entrepreneurship and increasing the region's appeal to both young people and investors. Turcianske Teplice is building its development on spa tourism, health tourism and quality of life. "The common denominator for all four districts is the need for quality infrastructure, support for the regional economy, and balanced development between urban and rural areas. The cabinet's away-from-home session thus presents an opportunity to adopt specific measures that will contribute to the long-term development of northern Slovakia and improve the daily lives of its inhabitants," added the Government Office. am/df
