Bratislava, 28 April (TASR) - MP Jan Ferencak (Independent) isn't currently being provided with protection by the Interior Ministry's Office for the Protection of Constitutional Officials and Diplomatic Missions, Interior Ministry spokesman Matej Neumann has informed TASR, adding that "the matter is currently being addressed".
Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said on Monday (27 April) that MP and Kezmarok (Presov region) mayor Ferencak should be provided with protection after he was physically assaulted over the weekend, noting that he's a constitutional official and could face further assaults.
Ferencak said on JOJ 24's discussion programme 'Politika 24' (Politics 24) on Sunday (26 April) that he was physically assaulted on Saturday (25 April) in the presence of his daughter when an unknown attacker struck him in the head. Presov Region Police later confirmed that a Kezmarok investigator has launched an criminal investigation into the suspicion of assault on a public official and disorderly conduct.
