Vysoke Tatry/Bratislava, 24 April (TASR) - A Polish tourist was killed in the High Tatra mountain range on Friday after a fatal fall, the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) has reported on social media. In the early morning hours, the HZS Operations Centre received a request for assistance from Poland's TOPR mountain rescue service from an area at the base of Zadny Ladovy stit peak. "A pair of Polish tourists had planned to climb Ladovy stit. While crossing a snow field, one of them slipped and fell approximately 200 metres, suffering devastating and fatal injuries," said HZS. According to HZS, a helicopter unit of the Slovak Interior Ministry was asked to assist. The crew picked up rescuers from the HZS regional centre in the High Tatras at the heliport in Stary Smokovec. "Upon arriving at the scene, HZS rescuers prepared the remains for transport. They were then airlifted to Stary Smokovec and handed over to officers of the Slovak police," added HZS. The service also reminded tourists of their obligation to comply with the Nature and Landscape Protection Act, the visitor regulations of the Tatra National Park and HZS instructions. mf/df
