Fico: Merz to Pay Visit to Slovakia by End of May

Nicosia, 24 April (TASR-correspondent) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz should visit Slovakia by the end of May, Slovak Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) announced at the informal EU summit in Nicosia, Cyprus on Friday, not specifying the exact date, TASR has learnt from its special correspondent. Fico stressed that he and the German Chancellor share similar views on several issues, including the automotive industry. He described the announced visit as very important for bilateral relations, as well as for the entire European Union. The Slovak premier spoke with Merz by phone in January. At that time, he expressed hope that the German chancellor would come to Slovakia soon. Fico noted that several hundred German companies operate in Slovakia and that the Slovak economy is particularly dependent on developments in Germany due to the huge concentration of car production. ko/df
