Majersky: Police Launch Investigation into Ambulance Tender

Bratislava, 23 April (TASR) - Police have launched criminal investigation over suspicion of misuse of power by a public official with respect to a tender for operating emergency service ambulances, based on a criminal complaint filed in August 2025 by opposition MP Frantisek Majersky of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), KDH's press department told TASR on Thursday. This follows from a notice delivered to the MP by an investigator on Thursday. "From the outset I have opposed this non-transparent tender, as everything indicated it had been pre-arranged. The opening of criminal proceedings shows the police view these suspicions just as seriously. I will monitor this case closely, because there must be no profiteering from ambulance services," Majersky said. The tender for operating the ambulances was launched by the emergency service's operations centre in May 2025. It was criticised for the lack of transparency by the opposition and part of the coalition. The operations centre cancelled it in August. In November, Prosecutor-General Maros Zilinka said the ministry had acted in breach of the law and filed prosecutorial protests. The ministry did not comply, prompting Zilinka to file 32 administrative lawsuits. The ministry maintains the ambulance tender was cancelled lawfully and that subsequent decisions to halt proceedings were also in line with the law. It says it is ready to defend its legal position in administrative court. In February, police said the anti-corruption unit of the Office for the Fight against Organised Crime was dealing with several criminal complaints related to the ambulance tender. mf
