Bratislava, 22 April (TASR) - The government will commemorate the 81st anniversary of the victory over fascism in the town of Liptovsky Mikulas (Zilina region) on 10 May.
A proposal concerning the organisational arrangements for the celebrations was approved at the government meeting on Wednesday. The main organiser of the celebrations is the Defence Ministry, while the Interior and Health Ministries will serve as co-organisers.
The celebrations will begin at 11 a.m. on 10 May with a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial and war cemetery on Haj Nicovo hill in Liptovsky Mikulas. The event will continue at the General M.R. Stefanik Armed Forces Academy with a ceremonial programme featuring speeches by guests.
"By commemorating this significant historical event, we honour the thousands of Slovaks and members of other nationalities living in Slovakia who joined the fight against Nazi Germany and its satellite states during World War II - not only in Czechoslovak military units abroad, in the insurgent First Czechoslovak Army in Slovakia and in the domestic partisan movement, but also in the armies of other states of the anti-fascist coalition or in resistance movements on the territories of occupied countries," stated the Defence Ministry.
