Bear Attacks Runner on Urpin Hill above Banska Bystrica, Man Managed to Escape

Banska Bystrica, 16 April (TASR) - A bear attacked a 31-year-old runner on Urpin Hill above Banska Bystrica on Thursday morning, the Banska Bystrica Region Police Directorate informed TASR on the same day.
The man sustained injuries in the attack, but managed to escape. The area is being monitored by the police and a brown bear intervention team.
The bear attack took place in the early morning hours near the observatory on Urpin. The man, who was jogging in the area, sustained injuries to his chest, but managed to escape and ran down to a small railway station, from where he called for help.
"The man was treated by an ambulance crew and taken to hospital for further examination. Police patrols were also dispatched to the scene. The brown bear intervention team has also been notified and will search for the beast and monitor the entire location," said the police.
In connection with the accident, the Banska Bystrica City Council has called on residents to be cautious when moving in natural surroundings, especially during walks or sporting activities, and to increase their caution.
