Bratislava, 15 April (TASR) - The Slovak Bishops Conference (KBS) has expressed its support for Pope Leo XIV, who advocates for peace in war-torn countries, the KBS press office has stated on its website, adding that KBS joins the call for peace. The bishops expressed regret at the words addressed to the Pope by US President Donald Trump. "The pope's spiritual and moral authority isn't guided by the logic of political confrontation, but by fidelity to the Gospel. The Pope's voice is a prophetic voice for humanity today - a voice that, in the light of Christ's message, prudently and consistently condemns every offensive war, and the killing of the innocent in particular," said KBS chair Bernard Bober. According to the bishops, bombs don't build a just order; they bring suffering and chaos and threaten the future of all humanity. "With confidence and determination, we support the Holy Father and pray that he will have the strength to remain a courageous witness to the truth, raising his voice in defence of the life and dignity of every human being," added Bober. The American president has criticised Pope Leo XIV several times in recent days. He did so again over the weekend after the Holy Father called for peace in the Middle East, accusing him of being too "liberal". Leo XIV himself, who is the first pope of US origin, responded to the president by stating that he'll continue to speak out against war and that he isn't afraid of his administration. am/df
