Bratislava, 14 April (TASR) - Parliament has approved on Tuesday the agreement on police cooperation between Slovakia and the Czech Republic, ruling that this is an international treaty under the Slovak Constitution, which takes precedence over domestic laws.
"The agreement between the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic on police cooperation regulates cooperation in the prevention and detection of criminal offences, the identification of their perpetrators, the protection of public order and safety, as well as in the prevention and detection of offences within the jurisdiction of police authorities, financial administration authorities in Slovakia, and customs administration authorities in the Czech Republic," stated the Interior Ministry.
According to the ministry, the purpose of the agreement is to modernise existing institutions of police cooperation in the context of the fight against serious crime and the identified risk of a migration wave, while also reflecting the needs of police practice within international cooperation.
