Bratislava, 14 April (TASR) - While revenues in most sectors of the economy grew in February, those in industry, the key sector of the economy, fell for the second consecutive month, going down by 5.3 percent in fixed prices, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday.
Nine of the 16 monitored industrial branches posted year-on-year (y-o-y) decreases in revenues. The most significant impact came from drops in the production of means of transport (10.4 percent), the production of metals (10.7 percent) and the manufacture of wooden products (21.5 percent). An even bigger decline was prevented by y-o-y increases in revenues in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, the production of computer and optical products, and electricity and gas supplies.
The remaining monitored sectors posted y-o-y growth in revenues in February. Revenues in the information and communications sector rose by 15.5 percent, the fastest growth seen in the past 14 months. Other sectors saw slower revenue growth: selected market services - 2.6 percent, the construction sector - 3.5 percent, and transport and warehousing - only 0.1 percent.
In monthly terms, revenues (seasonally adjusted) grew in three of the five sectors monitored, in particular in industry (0.5 percent), in the information and communications sector (1.8 percent), and in selected market services (0.4 percent). Revenues in the construction sector were 3 percent lower than in January, while those in transport and warehousing shrank by 1.9 percent.
