Stats: Employment Down in Six Out of Ten Sectors Y-o-Y in February 2026

Bratislava, 14 April (TASR) - Employment fell in six of the ten monitored sectors of Slovakia's economy in February 2026, with wholesale posting the most rapid year-on-year (y-o-y) decrease of 4 percent, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. Drops of up to 2 percent were seen in key sectors in terms of labour, such as retail and industry. Conversely, growth was posted in four sectors, most notably in accommodation, with the number of employees going up by more than 5 percent. Slighter growth of below 4 percent was recorded in the construction sector, selected market services, and the information and communications sector. In the first two months of 2026, employment increased y-o-y in six sectors, with the most rapid growth of almost 7 percent being reported by the accommodation sector. Drops of up to 4 percent were posted in industry, transport and warehousing, retail and wholesale. ko/df
