Bratislava, 10 April (TASR) - Following a short-lived recovery, industrial output in Slovakia fell by 2.9 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in February 2026, the Statistics Office reported on Friday, adding that declines were recorded in nine of the 15 monitored branches of industry, including several dominant industrial sectors. After seasonal adjustment, industrial output rose by 0.3 percent month-on-month (m-o-m) in February. The most significant negative impact on industrial output came from the production of transport equipment, which dropped by more than 7 percent y-o-y in February. This may have been caused by a high comparison base in February 2025 when car production saw an unusually high increase on a monthly basis (up by 11.9 percent). As regards declines in other key sectors, the production of metals dropped by 5 percent y-o-y, while the production of oil products plummeted by nearly 27 percent y-o-y. Conversely, chemicals production saw a 14-percent increase, while other industrial manufacturing rose by 11 percent and food production went up by 6 percent. For the first two months of 2026, industrial output in Slovakia shrank by 0.3 percent year-on-year, with ten of the 15 monitored branches of industry posting a decline when compared to the same period of last year. The most significant impact came from more than 7-percent growth in electricity and gas supply, while the production of transport equipment dropped by 2.2 percent y-o-y. An even bigger fall was prevented by more than 11-percent growth in other industrial manufacturing. jrg
