Bratislava, 9 April (TASR) - According to preliminary data, Slovakia exported goods worth €9.3 billion in February 2026, down 1.3 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), while imports fell by 2.5 percent to €8.9 billion, with the trade balance returning to a surplus of €321.6 million after two months of deficits, improving by €111.4 million y-o-y, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday, adding that exports fell for the second consecutive month and imports for the third.

Bratislava, 9 April (TASR) - The special price of diesel that applies to foreign drivers will be decreased to €2.003 per litre as of midnight on Friday (10 March), according to an amended decree of the Finance Ministry that was published on the slov-lex.sk website on Thursday.

Martin, 9 April (TASR) - The contractor for the new St. Martin's University Hospital building in Martin (Zilina region) has managed to make significant progress thanks to favourable weather conditions and more daylight hours after the shift to summer time, Martin University Hospital (UNM) announced on social media on Thursday, adding that half the main building is already roofed over.

Bratislava, 9 April (TASR) - Governments across Europe are taking action against rising fuel prices, but the Slovak government under Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is actually doing nothing, representatives of the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party have stated in reference to the cabinet meeting on Wednesday (8 April), warning that despite the ceasefire agreed in the Middle East, upward pressure on prices will persist in the near future, thus requiring some action.

Galanta, 9 April (TASR) - The Labour Office in Galanta (Trnava region) has recorded three mass lay-offs in the district since the beginning of the calendar year, with a company engaged in plastic packaging production being the latest one, reporting 52 jobs at risk in March, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre's press department has informed TASR.
