Bratislava, 8 February (TASR) - Retail revenues in Slovakia fell by 2.5 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in February, marking the fourth consecutive month of annual drop, although the pace of decline was slower than in the previous three months, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday. After seasonal adjustment, retail sales grew by 0.1 percent in monthly terms. Six out of nine segments of retail recorded a drop in sales. The overall result was mainly driven by a sharp decline in e-commerce and mail-order sales (sales outside shops, stalls and markets), which fell by 10 percent, as well as by a 1 percent decrease in the largest segment, hypermarkets and supermarkets (non-specialised stores). Year-on-year declines ranging from 0.5 percent to 3.9 percent were also recorded in other specialised stores, including those selling other goods such as drugstores, pharmacies, textiles, footwear and certain fuels, as well as in fuel retail (petrol stations) and stores specialising in food, beverages and tobacco. By contrast, better results than a year earlier were achieved by specialised stores selling information and communication equipment, up 18.4 percent, as well as bookshops, sports goods stores and toy shops (specialised stores for culture and recreation goods), up 1.8 percent, and DIY stores, furniture and electronics outlets (specialised stores for household goods), up 0.3 percent. In total for the first two months of 2026, retail sales decreased by 3.1 percent in constant prices, with as many as seven out of nine retail segments recording a year-on-year decline. mf
