Bratislava, 7 April (TASR) - Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) has announced in a video on social media that he'll commemorate the victims of fascism and those who fought against it during WWII in several locations in the upcoming days and weeks.
Fico will do so at the Slavin war memorial in Bratislava on Wednesday (8 April), then at Dachau concentration camp in Germany, and in Moscow on Victory Day, 9 May. In June, he'll commemorate the opening of the second front in Normandy.
"These are good good opportunities to develop ideas on how to strengthen the protection of peace in these difficult times of war," stated Fico.
The premier also said that Slovakia will face extremely serious international challenges by the end of the current electoral term. He thinks that Russia is currently benefiting the most from "deliberate harmful Ukrainian actions and the senseless war by the United States and Israel against Iran," due to increases in energy prices. According to Fico, the United States is losing control over the war in Iran, while the situation regarding oil and gas continues to worsen. He claimed that countries that are at least somewhat internally hardened will be more successful.
"The Slovak government, in cooperation with the Slovnaft refinery, is doing its utmost to ensure that even with rising fuel prices, Slovakia will maintain some of the lowest prices in the second half of all EU-member states. Along with Hungary and other countries, we are fighting for the Druzhba pipeline to resume operations, and for the eyes of the European Commission, which is literally setting world records in incompetence and ideological blindness, to be opened," stated the premier.
Fico also criticised the opposition for not helping the Slovak government in "hard times". According to him, the opposition parties have offered no solutions and are spreading lies about fuel prices.
"The 2027 elections in Slovakia won't be about a change of government. They will be about whether Slovakia will remain a country where it will be possible to freely express differing opinions, whether we'll be a sovereign nation or a pug of the European Commission, and whether Slovak national interests will take priority over the interests of other countries, in particular Ukraine," said Fico.
