Kosice, 6 April (TASR) - Ryanair has launched new direct flights from Kosice to Malaga in Spain with a ceremonial inaugural flight, and the route is set to be served twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, year-round.
Spokesperson for Kosice Airport Juraj Toth told TASR that this is the first year-round sunny destination offered by the airport. There has been high demand so far, as the first two departing flights were fully booked. "This is Ryanair's sixth route in Kosice overall. We're pleased that Europe's largest airline recognises the potential of our catchment area," said the airport's executive director and board chairman Thomas Dworschak.
The new air connection will provide residents of eastern Slovakia and neighbouring areas with an easy way to travel to Andalusia, Spain. It will also facilitate access to eastern Slovakia for Spanish travellers from Malaga Airport, which handled over 26 million passengers last year.
"We believe that the more direct flights there are, the more open Kosice region will become, and the more opportunities we'll be able to take advantage of," Kosice region governor Rastislav Trnka told TASR.
