Man Dies in Hotel Fire in Zilina, 39 Evacuated

Zilina/Bratislava, 4 April (TASR) - A Saturday morning fire in a hotel in Zilina had tragic consequences, as a 56-year-old man died after inhaling smoke, according to regional police spokesperson Daniela Kockova.
The fire broke out in a hotel room on the fourth floor. "There was one person in the room who inhaled combustion fumes. Emergency medical services were called for the 56-year-old man, but he eventually succumbed to his injuries," Kockova said.
She added that 39 people were evacuated during the fire. A fire investigator attended the scene and preliminarily hasn't ruled out third-party involvement.
"The investigator of the criminal police department in Zilina has launched criminal proceedings on suspicion of the offence of general endangerment. The exact circumstances as well as the cause of the fire remain under investigation," Kockova added.
