Bratislava, 1 April (TASR) - There's no agreement within the coalition on extending the electoral term of parliament, Voice-SD caucus head Robert Puci has told TASR in response to the coalition Slovak National Party's (SNS) proposal that aims to extend the terms in office of parliament and local governments to five years.
"There's no agreement within the coalition on extending the electoral term for MPs. As for extending the term in office for local-government bodies, Voice has already submitted such a proposal to Parliament, and both SNS and Smer-SD have promised to support it," noted Puci.
The junior coalition SNS party has submitted a draft amendment to the Slovak Constitution, extending the electoral terms of parliament and local governments from four to five years. A proposal to extend the electoral term of local governments from four to five years had already been submitted to Parliament by a group of MPs from the coalition Voice-SD, along with independent MP Roman Malatinec. This proposal doesn't include extending the electoral term of parliament, however.
