Bratislava, 30 March (TASR) - The coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) is interested in maintaining a constructive working relationship with Environment Minister Tomas Taraba (an SNS nominee) at least until the end of the electoral term, head of the SNS chairman's office Zuzana Skopcova told TASR on Monday, adding that unfortunately, the ultimatum-like manner in which he communicates with the party raises unnecessary questions about the future of their cooperation. Over the weekend, Taraba stated that despite the support of the SNS membership base, he believes that the party leadership won't let him join SNS. "We view Minister Taraba's statements as self-serving and completely unnecessary. SNS doesn't interfere with his work and has allowed him to fulfil his professional potential. Given the media reports by 'We Are Family' chairman Boris Kollar, we assume that Minister Taraba wants clarity," stated Skopcova, adding that the SNS presidium, not individuals, decides whether to admit members. According to Skopcova, former MP Romana Tabakova and Taraba, among others, have submitted applications to join the party. "However, membership of a political party isn't just about individual abilities, but also about the ability to work as part of a team," she added. According to her, decisions are always made after a number of applications have been received. Taraba stated on TA3's discussion programme 'V politike' (In Politics) on Sunday that he submitted an application to SNS in a standard manner and is currently awaiting a decision. He emphasised that he feels the support of the membership base, but the stance of SNS chairman Andrej Danko indicates to him that he won't become an SNS member, even though, as a party nominee, he's completely loyal to the party. He also rejected speculation that he might join another party. am/df
