Gdansk/Bratislava, 29 March (TASR-correspondent) – Airlines Wizz Air and Ryanair on Thursday (26 March) launched new direct routes from Gdansk to Bratislava and Poprad, aimed at boosting mobility, tourism, business ties and people-to-people contacts between Slovakia and Poland. On the occasion, Slovak Ambassador to Poland Andrea Elschekova Matisova visited the northern Polish metropolis, TASR has learnt from its special correspondent in Warsaw. According to the ambassador, the new flights represent an important step in developing bilateral relations. "This is a significant impetus for further bringing together countries, people and regions," Elschekova Matisova said, highlighting opportunities to expand business, cultural and academic cooperation. During her visit, she held talks with city and regional representatives on transport links, investment and regional-level cooperation. Discussions also covered energy, infrastructure and the growing importance of Gdansk as a logistics hub. Participants said the talks confirmed mutual interest in extending cooperation, particularly in tourism, business missions and partnerships between local authorities in Slovakia and the Pomeranian region. The ambassador also underlined the importance of the local airport within Poland. "It is the third largest airport in Poland by passenger numbers," she said, noting it handled around 7.5 million passengers last year, representing an annual increase of about 10 percent. It offers nearly 100 regular connections to 27 countries. Including Bratislava and Poprad among these destinations expands opportunities for economic cooperation and bolsters Slovakia's links with northern Poland, Elschekova Matisova added. mf/jrg
