Bratislava, 28 March (TASR) - After ten years operating at M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava (BTS), low-cost airline Wizz Air has become one of the airport's two main carriers along with Ryanair.
After opening a base at the airport last November, the airline now operates 25 scheduled routes from there and plans to add another six gradually in late March, May, and June.
"During the ten years that it's been operating at Bratislava Airport, Wizz Air has become an important partner for us, and it's currently driving the airport's tremendous operational growth," said Bratislava Airport head Dusan Novota.
Since the launch of the carrier's first route from the airport in the Slovak capital to Skopje in March 2016 (which is still in operation), the number of Wizz Air routes has increased - or will increase - to 31. According to Novota, this has been made possible by the company's new base at Bratislava airport, which houses four Airbus A321neo aircraft with a capacity of 239 seats. They were transferred from the company's former base at Vienna Airport.
Wizz Air's sales representative for central and eastern Europe and the Middle East Andras Szabo described the airline's ten years in Bratislava as a significant milestone. "It confirms our long-term interest in the Slovak market as well as the trust of our passengers. Expanding our route network and increasing the frequency of our flights is proof of our commitment to improving air connectivity and supporting the region's economic development," he stated.
In March, Wizz Air added six routes from Bratislava to Tirana, Berlin, Rome (Fiumicino Airport), Dortmund, Pristina (Kosovo), and Ohrid (North Macedonia). Later this month, it will also begin flying to Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Warsaw (F. Chopin Airport), and Nice; in May to Podgorica (Montenegro); and in June to the Greek island of Mykonos. The launch of a route to Tel Aviv has been tentatively postponed to 9 April due to the conflict in the Middle East.
The carrier has increased the number of flights on the Bratislava-Kosice domestic route, which has been in operation since 21 November 2025, from nine to thirteen weekly flights as of 21 March. Flights operate twice daily, except on Wednesdays.
