Oradea, 27 March (TASR-correspondent) - There are no unresolved issues in Slovak-Romanian relations, and the Slovak minority in the Romanian city of Oradea is made up of citizens loyal to Romania, stated Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) at a meeting with Slovaks living in Oradea.
"You came here perhaps more than 200 years ago, and since then there have been many occasions when it's become clear that we help one another. Please, let's not forget the end of World War II, when Romanian troops played a significant role in liberating Bratislava," the prime minister told Romanian citizens of Slovak nationality.
Fico announced that the Slovak government will adopt a resolution and support pre-school education for children in the city. "I won't go into any details; I can only confirm that what has come from the Romanian side will also come from the Slovak side; definitely the same amount," stated the premier, adding that Slovakia will support the nursery school so that approximately 30 children can attend it as soon as possible.
On Friday, the premier, along with Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee), Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD), and Foreign Ministry State Secretary Marek Estok, met Romanian President Nicușor Dan and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan in Bucharest. They discussed issues related to energy, defence and culture. The state visit also included a meeting with ethnic Slovaks living in the vicinity of the city of Oradea.
