Vysne Nemecke, 23 March (TASR) - Financial Administration (FS) has announced a public tender for expanding and refurbishing a workplace handling passenger transport at the Vysne Nemecke-Uzhhorod border crossing with Ukraine, which is one of the most important entry points into the Schengen area, FS spokesperson Daniel Kovac has informed TASR, adding that the value of the project is estimated at over €9 million (including VAT). The project should speed up passenger processing and strengthen security measures. It includes the reconstruction and expansion of existing facilities for both entering Slovakia and exiting to Ukraine. "The modernisation of the Vysne Nemecke border crossing is an important step in providing a high level of protection for the Schengen area's external borders and making the Entry/Exit System more efficient. The project will also contribute towards making the processing of passengers with their own transport smoother and more comfortable," stressed Kovac. The project will be financed from the public contracting party and EU funds, specifically from the Border Management and Visa Policy Instrument (BMVI). The complete tender documentation is available on the Public Procurement Office's website. Slovakia is responsible for protecting some 97.9 kilometres of the EU's external border with Ukraine. The modernisation of the Vysne Nemecke border crossing should respond to the current security situation, recommendations from a Slovak border assessment, the need to combat illegal immigration and human-trafficking more effectively, as well as demands for smoother traffic and the implementation of the Entry/Exit System. ko/df
