Child Injured in Fire in Mirkovce Dies in Kosice Hospital

Kosice, 19 March (TASR) - One of the two children injured during a fire that broke out in a settlement near the village of Mirkovce (Presov region) on Tuesday (17 March) died at the Children's Faculty Hospital (DFN) in Kosice on Thursday, DFN spokesperson Zuzana Banikova confirmed for TASR after the tvnoviny.sk website reported the news. "Regrettably, we can confirm that one of the children succumbed to their injuries in the early hours of this morning. The other child remains in a serious, critical condition, and we're continuing intensive treatment," Banikova told TASR. During the fire, which broke out at a family house in Mirkovce, one child was killed at the scene, while two others in a critical condition were airlifted by a helicopter rescue service to a hospital in Kosice. A total of 14 members of the Firefighters and Emergency Service from Presov were deployed at the scene, along with three volunteer firefighters from the voluntary fire brigade of the village of Lemesany. jrg/df
