CRIF: 492 Bankruptcies in Slovakia in February, Highest Number in Kosice Region

Bratislava, 15 March (TASR) - A total of 492 Slovaks went bankrupt in February 2026, up by 18.6 percent from the 415 seen in January, according to an analysis published by CRIF – the Slovak Credit Bureau, which manages the credit registries of banking and non-banking houses. Meanwhile, in a year-on-year (y-o-y) comparison, the number of personal bankruptcies decreased by 3.3 percent from the 509 reported last February, stated CRIF. Of the total number of personal bankruptcies declared in February, 454 were declared for the assets of private individuals and 38 for the assets of entrepreneurs. The majority of the debtors (484) opted for bankruptcy, while the rest (eight) opted for instalment calendars. According to the company, 357 men (72.6 percent of the total number) went bankrupt in February, while the number of women filing for bankruptcy was only 135. The highest number of debtors (144) were aged between 30-39 for both genders, making up 29.3 percent of all bankruptcies in February. "The highest number of personal bankruptcies was reported in Kosice region, where 105 people went bankrupt. It was followed by Presov region with 93 and Nitra region with 72 debtors. The fewest bankruptcies (eight) were recorded in Bratislava region," stated CRIF chief analyst Jana Markova. Homeless people accounted for 17.2 percent of the total number of those falling into bankruptcy in February, with their number reaching 83. Five married couples and ten people with family ties went bankrupt in February as well. ko/df
