Big Exhibition of Albin Brunovsky's Work Opens in London

London/Bratislava, 14 March (TASR) - An exhibition titled 'Albin Brunovsky - The Comprehensive Works: Magical Realism in a Global Context' was opened to the public at the Slovak Institute in London earlier this week. The extensive exhibition project presents, for the first time in a comprehensive format, the work of one of the most significant figures in Slovak visual art of the second half of the 20th century and places his creations within a broad international context, reads a press release published by the the Slovak Institute in London. The project has been brought to the British capital by the Slovak Institute in cooperation with the +421 Foundation, with the aim of presenting the exceptional artistic legacy of Brunovsky, whose works are now part of significant collections both in Slovakia and abroad, to a British audience. The +421 Foundation has long been dedicated to supporting and promoting Slovak art abroad. Slovak visual artist, graphic designer and illustrator Albin Brunovsky (1935–1997), a key figure of magical and fantastical realism, is the central figure of 'The Comprehensive Work' exhibition, which offers a comprehensive view of his entire artistic output. The exhibition includes his graphic art, drawings and paintings, book illustrations, iconic banknote designs, as well as reflections of his work in creating postage stamps. The event's partner is the Slovak National Gallery (SNG). "It's an honour for us to present works of such significance in the United Kingdom. They are returning to London for the first time in almost a quarter of a century. Art is one of the strongest bearers of a country's identity. This is doubly true in the case of Brunovsky, as he was one of the few internationally recognised Slovak artists at the time of the 'Iron Curtain'," stated Sona Potheova, the director of the Slovak Cultural Institute in London.
