Bratislava, 14 March (TASR) - Slovak spas saw a significant increase in visitor numbers in 2025, according to data from the Statistics Office, with over 380,000 guests staying at spa accommodation facilities in Slovakia, an increase of almost 11 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), TASR learnt from national tourism promotion organisation Slovakia Travel earlier this week.
This confirms the increasing interest in spa tourism among both domestic and foreign visitors. Domestic guests accounted for the largest share of all spa visitors, at 84.4 percent. Their number rose to 321,347, up 10.5 percent y-o-y, while the figure for foreign visitors was 59,514, up 12 percent. When compared to the 2019 level, domestic guests saw an increase of more than 15 percent.
"Spa tourism ranks among the segments with significant potential for continued growth," said Slovakia Travel general director Matej Fekete, noting that the results for 2025 have confirmed that Slovak spas are becoming more attractive.
Spa facilities recorded a total of more than 2.7 million overnight stays in 2025, up 5.4 percent year-on-year. Domestic guests accounted for approximately 2.43 million stays (or 89 percent) while foreigners contributed nearly 300,000 stays (or 11 percent).
The bulk of the domestic clientele consists of the middle-aged and seniors, while most foreign guests as in the past come from the Czech Republic, accounting for approximately 69 percent of all foreign visitors.
"The average length of stay at spa facilities reached 7.2 nights in 2025. Domestic visitors spent an average of 7.6 nights and foreign guests approximately five nights," stated head of Slovakia Travel's communications department Zuzana Eliasova.
Revenues from accommodation in spa facilities exceeded €101 million, up by more than 21 percent y-o-y. In 2025, spa tourism accounted for some 6 percent of total visitor numbers across all accommodation facilities in Slovakia.
