Stats: Revenues in Industry Down 1 percent Y-o-Y in January 2026

Bratislava, 12 March (TASR) - Following a slight increase in December, revenues in industry, the key sector of the economy, fell by 1 percent year on year (y-o-y) in fixed prices in January 2026 when adjusted for inflation, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday. Of the 16 monitored industrial branches, nine posted a drop in revenues, with the most significant impact on the overall result seen in metal production, down by 9.9 percent, and in the manufacture of wood products, down by 26.2 percent. Conversely, the y-o-y decline was tempered by higher revenues in electricity and gas supplies, as well as in the production of means of transport. Other sectors monitored on a monthly basis saw a positive start to 2026, with IT sector revenues up by 11.2 percent, the highest rate recorded in 13 months. Revenues also increased in selected market services (by 1.4 percent), transport and warehousing (by 0.6 percent), and construction (by 2.1 percent). In monthly terms (seasonally adjusted), revenues rose in three out of five branches: industry by 0.3 percent, transport and warehousing by 2 percent, and the IT sector by 0.7 percent.
