People in Samorin Area Feel Another Aftershock on Tuesday Evening

Samorin, 11 March (TASR) - People in the areas around Samorin, Gabcikovo (both Trnava region), Dunajska Luzna and Senec (both Bratislava region) felt another aftershock of February's earthquake on Tuesday (10 March) evening, Kristian Csicsay, head of the seismology department at the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) has told TASR, warning of further potential aftershocks. The tremors occurred at 9.39 p.m. with a local magnitude of 3. "There's elevated seismic activity in the area affected by February's earthquake. This activity may last for weeks to months and is characterised by aftershocks, some of which can be felt by residents of the surrounding towns and villages," said Csicsay. The strongest aftershock of February's earthquake so far, with a 3.3 magnitude, was recorded in the Samorin area on Tuesday morning. Samorin residents reported feeling slight tremors and brief shaking. The magnitude 4.3 earthquake with its epicentre near the village of Rohovce (Trnava region) occurred on 21 February and was also felt by people in Bratislava. A total of 42 aftershocks have been recorded since then, with the two previously strongest ones having a magnitude of 2.8. ko/df
