Bratislava, 5 March (TASR) - Head of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) Pavol Gaspar fully respects President Peter Pellegrini's decision regarding the disciplinary proceedings in connection with Gaspar's traffic accident in August 2025, and for this reason he's also waived his right to lodge an appeal, SIS spokesperson Natalia Holubova told TASR on Thursday.
"I also view today's decision as the conclusion of a persistent six-month hunt by political representatives against the SIS director for a traffic accident that he didn't cause," stated Gaspar.
Earlier on Thursday, President Peter Pellegrini announced that he's concluded disciplinary proceedings against Gaspar, imposing a 15-percent salary deduction for a period of one month. The president added that he saw no reason to initiate disciplinary proceedings in connection with a motion filed by the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party.
Gaspar was involved in a traffic accident on Dobsinskeho Street in Nitra on 30 August 2025, when two vehicles collided. A minor suffered light injuries in the crash. Both participants in the traffic accident underwent breathalyser tests for alcohol with negative results. The president, as an authority superior to the SIS head, launched the disciplinary proceedings in January.
The opposition has long criticised Gaspar, describing the circumstances of the collision as suspicious on several occasions, and it's also lambasted him for other failings in his capacity as SIS head.
