UIS: Several Police Officers Charged With Extortion and Abuse of Power

Bratislava, 3 March (TASR) - An investigator of the Internal Affairs Inspectorate's (UIS) Veritas team oversaw a police operation codenamed 'Cooperating Defendant' on Tuesday, charging four current and two former police officers, plus one civilian, with extortion and abuse of power by a public official, allegedly committed in an organised manner, UIS spokesperson Andrea Dobiasova told TASR on the same day. In addition to those charged, two other suspects have been detained as well. The operation took place across Bratislava, Nitra and Banska Bystrica regions in cooperation with emergency police units from the regional Police Corps directorates. "To ensure that the investigation isn't compromised and that ongoing procedural actions aren't hindered, it isn't possible to provide any further information regarding the case at this time," added Dobiasova. jrg/df
