Bratislava, 2 March (TASR) - Prosecutor-General (PG) Maros Zilinka has submitted a proposal to amend criminal codes in relation to protecting society from tax fraud to Parliamentary Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD), TASR learnt from Zilinka's post on social media on Monday.
The prosecutor-general has proposed changes related to damages or proceeds from criminal activity and tightening up the conditions for criminal liability.
"I'm submitting this motion based on the findings of the PG's Office that result from an evaluation of the procedures of law-enforcement bodies in prosecuting those responsible for tax crimes in connection with the amendments to the Criminal Code implemented in 2024. According to statistical data from the Prosecutor-General's Office, legislative changes led to a significant decrease in the number of people prosecuted for and charged with tax fraud in 2025 (compared to 2024, there was a 48.86-percent fall in the number of people prosecuted and a 56.92-percent decrease in the number of those indicted)," he wrote.
Zilinka further stated that in addition to broadening the definitions of terms, he's also proposing tightening up criminal liability. According to him, this should apply to damages starting from €700, not from the current amount of €20,000.
