Slovaks Spend €1.55Bn on Gambling in 2025, Up 7.2%

Bratislava, 1 March (TASR) - Slovaks placed bets totalling €26.77 billion in 2025, with €25.22 billion paid out in winnings, according to data from the Gambling Regulatory Authority. Overall, Slovaks spent €1.55 billion on gambling, representing a 7.2 percent increase compared with 2024. Levy revenues from gambling paid into the state budget reached €369.9 million in 2025, up €22.67 million year-on-year, the authority said. Online casinos maintained a dominant position and recorded annual growth, accounting for 36.6 percent of total gambling revenues. Their share stood at 32.8 percent in 2024 and 21.6 percent in 2021. Revenue from online gambling reached €568.6 million in 2025, while levies paid into the state budget amounted to €151.1 million. "We expect online gambling to continue growing. It is a natural consequence of technological progress, the availability of powerful smartphones and virtually unlimited internet access," said Libusa Baranova, the general director of the authority. She added that one of the authority's priorities is educating the younger generation about the risks of gambling. mf/jrg
