Bratislava, 28 February (TASR) - The joint US-Israeli intervention in Iran, carried out without a mandate from the United Nations or respect for international law, has increased the risk of broader regional destabilisation, the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party stated in response to Saturday's escalation of tension in the Middle East.
According to PS, "the key is to insist on the protection and strengthening of a rules-based international order, including respect for international law and the role of the United Nations".
At the same time, the party cautioned that the incumbent Iranian regime fails to uphold the rules of international law.
"Its nuclear programme and support for terrorist organisations constitute a grave threat to international peace and security and are among the main drivers of instability in the region," added PS.
Explosions were heard in Iran on Saturday morning during a joint Israeli-American military intervention. Blasts were reported from several locations, including Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Tabriz, and Kermanshah. According to US President Donald Trump, the "major combat operations" are aimed at eliminating the threat posed by the Iranian regime. Iran has responded with missile strikes on Israel.
