Ziar nad Hronom, 27 February (TASR) - According to information available to Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD), Samsung is considering reassessing production capacities at its factories, and this could affect the firm's production plant in Galanta (Trnava region).
Fico at a news conference on Friday pointed out that there are serious considerations about what will happen regarding TV-set production in the central European region.
"If it comes to it that Slovakia will be among the countries where the production of TV screens will be scaled down, we'll ask what will replace it," said Fico. According to the premier, some 750 employees work at the Samsung production plant in Galanta, with a similar number employed in logistics.
Fico explained that he's received information that Samsung has been considering "redesigning" its factories around the world for global reasons. "They want to keep something, they want to cancel something," he said. The reason is said to be a significant drop in demand for TV sets.
