Bratislava, 25 February (TASR) - Slovakia will host the world's most significant camping and caravanning event next summer, the FICC Rally 2027, which will take place in Nitra from 26 June to 5 July, Tourism and Sport Minister Rudolf Huliak (Independent) said on Wednesday in connection with the preparation of the 98th world caravan rally.
"This is an exceptional opportunity for Slovakia to attract the attention of European and global caravanners, strengthen the country's brand in the active and sustainable tourism segment, and create an impetus for the development of infrastructure and services in the region," said Huliak.
Slovakia will thus have the opportunity to present itself to thousands of foreign visitors. According to the minister, attendees will have the opportunity to discover not only Nitra but also other Slovak towns and regions, along with their natural landscapes, traditions, cuisine, and hospitality. "This also confirms that Slovakia is ready to host major international tourism events," he said. He views camping and caravanning as a promising and sustainable segment, encouraging travellers to explore the country's regions and natural beauty.
According to data from the national tourism promotion organisation Slovakia Travel, there are more than 100 camping sites across Slovakia. Central Slovakia hosts nearly 40, while western and eastern regions have around 30 each. "In 2024, Slovak campsites welcomed almost 160,000 tourists, which is 10 percent more than a year ago. More than 80,000 of these were domestic visitors, with the remainder coming from abroad," specified Huliak, noting that summer traditionally remains the busiest period for campsites.
