Bratislava, 25 February (TASR) - Chairman of the House committee for defence and security Richard Gluck (Smer-SD) called an extraordinary session of the committee for Friday (27 February) to discuss halted investigations into cases of military equipment donation to Ukraine, and he wants Prosecutor-General Maros Zilinka, Bratislava Region Prosecutor Rastislav Remeta and Supreme Audit Office (NKU) chair Lubomir Andrassy to attend the session, TASR reported on Wednesday based on information published by Gluck on a social network.
"I asked the Prosecutor-General to grant consent for Regional Prosecutor Remeta to appear before the committee, as he recently approved of his press conference. I believe that elected MPs have the right to ask him what he meant by saying that the government of [former prime minister Eduard] Heger acted as a good manager while endangering our security," stated Gluck.
The law-enforcement authorities have dropped three out of four criminal investigations related to the aid given to Ukraine during the previous parliamentary term. By discontinuing criminal investigations or rejecting criminal complaints, they halted cases concerning the donation of MiG-29 fighters and the S-300 air-defence system along with the termination of a contract with a Russian company providing maintenance for the fighters. The police are still investigating the handover of technical documentation to Ukraine's military attache.
The Defence Ministry has informed that it intends to file a motion to review the decisions. Regional Prosecutor's Office said it stands by its findings.
